Frequently asked questions

Does UAntwerp offer scholarships for international students?

Yes. UAntwerp offers several options: programmes where we participate in the selection (Master Mind, Erasmus Mundus, VLIR-UOS and DFL), our own High Potential Incentive for outstanding non-EEA Master's students, and links to external funding. Scholarships are available at Bachelor's, Master's and PhD level.

Do I need to apply separately for a scholarship?

It depends on the scholarship. For Master Mind, VLIRUOS, Erasmus Mundus and DFL, a formal application is required. For Master Mind and VLIRUOS, UAntwerp submits that application on your behalf, so contact us early. For the High Potential Incentive, no additional application or action is required. The incentive is granted after successful screening by the faculty following your admission.

When is the deadline?

Deadlines vary by programme. For Master Mind, all applications must be submitted through UAntwerp by 1 February. For Erasmus Mundus and VLIR-UOS, check the individual programme pages. If in doubt, contact us at internationalstudents@uantwerp.be.

Can I combine a scholarship with other financial support?

Usually not within UAntwerp's own programmes — the Master Mind scholarship, for example, cannot be combined with other Flemish government grants or an Erasmus Mundus award. The High Potential Incentive cannot be combined with a payment plan. If you receive support from your home country or a private foundation, check with that provider.

Where do I start?

  • Check your eligibility first. Each scholarship has its own criteria based on nationality and study level.
  • Apply for admission early. For the High Potential Incentive, admission is all you need. For other scholarships, you'll need to be in contact with UAntwerp well before the deadline.
  • Explore external options in parallel. External scholarships can take time to process — start early.
