The Collaborative Antwerp Psychiatric Research Institute (CAPRI) investigates the emergence, course and treatment of psychiatric disorders. One in four people in Belgium is having serious psychological problems. There is a pressing need for new knowledge and insights. Not only to improve treatment methods, but also to prevent stubborn stigmatization.
Depression and psychosis are common psychiatric disorders, but are not always well treatable with the medications that are available today. Recent research shows that the immune system appears to play an important role in the emergence and maintenance of these psychiatric disorders. CAPRI has a large database of brains of deceased psychiatric patients. These brains allow us to investigate the abnormalities of the immune cells (microglia, astrocytes) of depressed and psychotic patients in detail.
CAPRI can use your support to further expand its leading research in depression, psychosis, ADHD, anxiety disorder and addiction.
