Transform, reuse, extend, … to do more with less

Anne Lacaton and Philippe Vassal
Thursday 2 April 2020

Prof Anne Lacaton and Prof Jean Philippe Vassal will receive an honorary degree in recognition of their expertise in the field of architecture.

Lacaton & Vassal is an internationally recognised architectural firm based in Paris. The partners are also renowned design professors at ETH Zurich and UDK Berlin.

Through their teaching and design practice, they give a clear signal to the international architectural community: demolition due to changing requirements in comfort or new aesthetic visions is no longer acceptable today. Instead, transformation and commitment to a sustainable circular economy is essential.

In this masterclass they show how, through design research, they are addressing burning issues in the societal debate: finding creative solutions for abandoned complexes and urban contexts, sustainability and urban productivity, and how, through design research and building practice, designers can concretise their social and economic responsibilities.
