International Francqui Chair 2018 - Class of Excellence 'The Integration of Migrants in a Changing Labour Market'

About the Class of Excellence

Migration is a constant and natural phenomenon, which takes various forms and follows changing patterns. In 2015, the troubled international context led to increased migration flows to Europe. A substantial share of migrants received a permit to remain on various grounds, notably asylum. This now raises the question of their effective integration. The Class aims to address that question from the specific angle of the exercise of an economic activity, which is one of the main drivers for integration. Discussions will seek to clarify the trajectories of migrants on the Belgian labour market and to reflect on how the regulation of new forms of employment may assist migrants in finding the way to social inclusion.
