The university has several buildings, car parks and lecture halls which are not always equally accessible to disabled people. In order to avoid unpleasant surprises like there being no elevator in the building, a high doorstep or a toilet that has not been adapted, the university is working with the Province of Antwerp's Access Unit.
The whole university is being screened for accessibility.
Each screening report contains a detailed overview of any issues identified and recommendations for improvement, which may require significant investment. We are taking a pragmatic approach to those recommendations: small changes are made as quickly as possible, while bigger adaptations are kept in mind and included in the multiannual budget.

Design advice regarding the construction plans
Before putting in a request for a permit, the University asked the Access Unit for design advice regarding the construction plans. This allows the university to avoid errors and implement the most accessible concept possible.
