The University of Antwerp wants to create a stimulating environment for all its members, for both students and personnel. It goes without saying that this also applies to LGBTQ+ persons. In addition to a few targeted initiatives, sexual orientation and gender diversity are both included as a theme in the Diversity Action Plan for students and the Diversity Action Plan for staff. The latter is currently under development and will be launched at the start of the new academic year 2020-2021.
Specific LGBTQ+ policy initiatives:
- Common transgender policy: In collaboration with the other Flemish universities within the Flemish Interuniversity Councel (VLIR) the UAntwerp wants to assist in working out a unified transgender policy to improve the wellbeing at our universities.
- Diversity Action Plan for staff: In the frame of the Diversity Action Plan for staff the UAntwerp organized in spring 2020 focus groups with LGB and transgender personnel to identify needs and requirements. The results of these focus groups will be taken into account in the development of the action plan.
