The Communication Department's mission is easily summarised: our aim is to improve the University of Antwerp's reputation with everything we do. This can be achieved through a wide range of channels. Our communication targets prospective students, the thousands of university employees, our tens of thousands of alumni, the media, and so on.

Our aim is to raise the profile of the University by the River

Of course, excelling in research and education is one of the University of Antwerp's main priorities. But excelling alone is not enough. We also need to keep the world and our own university community informed about our work. In this way, we try to attract more and better students, to demonstrate the relevance of our research and to clarify our role in society.

Communication has to be received at just the right time; it has to touch people's hearts and make a difference. Crucial elements of good communication therefore include timing, carefully chosen channels and the right packaging, preferably with the right image. The Communication Department is home to this expertise. Along with each faculty's Communications Manager, we work tirelessly every day to achieve our goals.

The University of Antwerp is not an island

We shudder at the notion of the "ivory tower": day in, day out, the University of Antwerp works hard to keep in touch with its environment. Of course, the Antwerp university colleges and the other Flemish universities are part of this environment. But we also work closely with the city and the various levels of government, the business community, social and cultural stakeholders, and so on. The Communication Department helps facilitate these contacts.

Our symbols are important

The University of Antwerp has to be a strong brand, and uniform corporate style is an important aspect of this kind of branding. The Communication Department aims to make the university's corporate style as user-friendly as possible for everyone in the university community. We develop merchandising to ensure that everyone can wear our university's name with pride.
