Research Methodology

The purpose of the course Research Methodology (download pdf 1 MB) is to allow participants to acquire the necessary skills for setting up and successfully implementing research projects, for selecting the appropriate research methods and for critically assessing research by others. It deals with quantitative as well as qualitative research methods applied across the field of transport economics.

The course aims to familiarise participants with key research choices, the full research process, the relationship between theory, research and application, and the development of own research tools and techniques.

The course will take place from 13th to 24th February 2017 at the University of Antwerp (see practical information). 

 

Course coordinator

Rosário Macário, has degrees in Business Economics and Management, MSc and PhD in Transportation Systems, Habilitation (DSc) in Civil Engineering.

Professor and Researcher in Transportation at the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Georresources at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) Universidade de Lisboa (www.ist.eu) and Guest Professor at University of Antwerp, Department of Transport and Regional Economics (Belgium).

She occupies the following international positions:  Chair of International Relations in the World Conference on Transport Research Society;  Editor in Chief of the Scientific Journal "Case Studies on Transport Policy" published by Elsevier;  Executive Board of Directors of the Center of Excellence for Research on “BRT- ALC Bus Rapid Transit – Across Latitudes and Cultures” (www.brt.cl)  and, President of the Shareholder Assembly of the private company TIS.PT (www.tis.pt).

She has extensive experience in Transport Policy and Practice and previous to her academic career worked 20 years in the Airline and Airport Business as Flight Operations Officer.
