​This course will teach you the most important dos and don’ts of academic writing in English. You’ll receive lots of practical tips and tricks focusing on the most common problems in student papers. This way, you’ll learn to recognise and correct the mistakes you typically make in your assignments using the course materials and extra online resources (dictionaries, lists of synonyms and phrases, practice websites, etc.).

Content

  • the dos and don’ts of academic writing (e.g. use of passive versus active voice)
  • creating flow (e.g. using linking words, telling a story)
  • using standard phrases (e.g. This paper explores the validity of …)
  • mastering academic vocabulary (e.g. subsequent, diverge, etc.)
  • recognising common mistakes (e.g. *More important, …-> More importantly …)
  • learning punctuation rules (e.g. This method, however, will …)
  • using online resources (dictionaries, lists of synonyms and phrases, practice websites, etc.)


Evaluation

There is no test at the end of the course. Students who attend at least 75% of the classes will receive a certificate of attendance.

Cancellation policy

Linguapolis reserves the right to cancel the course if the minimum number of participants has not been reached. If this is the case, we will inform you as soon as possible.

If you cancel your registration before the registration deadline, we charge 20% of the registration fee to cover cancellation costs. No refunds will be made if the participant cancels after the registration deadline. Registrations cannot be interrupted or transferred to a later course date. Once the course has started, no refunds can be made.
