Scientists at UAntwerp are carrying out groundbreaking coronavirus research. One example is the large-scale survey launched by UAntwerp to better assess the evolution of the coronavirus curve. This citizen science project is providing crucial information to the COVID-19 expert committee, which in turn advises the National Security Council's crisis unit.
In addition, the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Institute (VAXINFECTIO) at UAntwerp is working extensively on the development of brand-new candidate vaccines for COVID-19.
Finally, our researchers are also collecting and analysing blood samples containing antibodies against the novel coronavirus. These crucial data will allow us to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in Belgium, but also to prevent a possible second or third wave of infections.
