Remote lung research during corona epidemic - April 2020

Frequent lung examinations are essential to monitor corona patients. This is a challenge for the medical staff, who must wear sterile clothing and wash their hands with each new patient each time they enter the hospital room.

To improve their safety and reduce workload, Professor Jan Steckel and his team from Flanders Make @UAntwerp developed a stethoscope system to perform lung exams without coming into direct contact with the COVID-19 patients. In addition, thanks to the system, work can be done faster and more patients can be monitored.

This ingenious system aims to help doctors worldwide to fight the coronavirus. The technology of the device will be offered "open source" and will therefore be available to doctors worldwide.
