This symposium invites participants to discuss anarchist approaches to collective responsibility in theory and practice. The concept 'collective responsibility' has received generous attention in philosophy and social sciences in the past few decades. Although political philosophers have engaged with the concept, explicitly anarchist discussions seem to be absent in academic discourse. However, it seems that anarchist ideas on collective responsibility could critically interrogate the current academic debates. For example, in debates in applied philosophy, collective responsibility is often used in a very narrow sense, only denoting state responsibility. Many other structured groups and institutions might also be collective agents that can be ascribed responsibility.
Anarchist thinking, as a set of political theories critical of all hierarchical structures including the state, seems uniquely positioned to think critically and creatively about the concept and practices of collective responsibility. This symposium wants to address the current research gap by investigating the varied ways in which historical and contemporary anarchist movements have dealt with issues of collective responsibility.
With this symposium, we want to bring together anarchists, philosophers, political theorists and other interested parties together for fruitful dialogue. This is an interdisciplinary event that welcomes contributions from all kinds of academic disciplines. Additionally, we especially want to encourage students, non-academics, and activists to participate. We also invite co-authored contributions.

Dit symposium nodigt deelnemers uit om te discussiëren over anarchistische benaderingen van collectieve verantwoordelijkheid in theorie en praktijk. Het concept 'collectieve verantwoordelijkheid' heeft de afgelopen decennia veel aandacht gekregen in filosofie en sociale wetenschappen. Hoewel politieke filosofen zich wel met het concept hebben beziggehouden, lijken expliciet anarchistische besprekingen ervan nog te ontbreken in het academisch discours. Anarchistische ideeën over collectieve verantwoordelijkheid lijken de huidige academische debatten echter kritisch te kunnen aanvullen. In debatten in de toegepaste filosofie wordt collectieve verantwoordelijkheid bijvoorbeeld vaak in zeer nauwe zin gebruikt, wanneer alleen de verantwoordelijkheid van de staat wordt bedoeld. Vele andere gestructureerde groepen en instellingen kunnen ook collectieve agenten zijn waaraan we collectieve verantwoordelijkheid kunnen toeschrijven.
Het anarchistische denken, als een geheel van politieke theorieën die kritisch staan tegenover alle hiërarchische structuren, inclusief de staat, lijkt bij uitstek geschikt om kritisch en creatief na te denken over het concept en de praktijk van collectieve verantwoordelijkheid. Dit symposium wil de huidige lacune in het onderzoek opvullen door verschillende manieren te onderzoeken waarop historische en hedendaagse anarchistische bewegingen zijn omgegaan met kwesties van collectieve verantwoordelijkheid.
Met dit symposium willen we anarchisten, filosofen, politieke theoretici en andere geïnteresseerden samenbrengen voor een vruchtbare dialoog. Dit is een interdisciplinair evenement waar bijdragen uit allerlei academische disciplines welkom zijn. Daarnaast willen we vooral studenten, niet-academici en activisten aanmoedigen om deel te nemen. We staan ook open voor bijdrages van meerdere auteurs of collectieven.
