2. The Master knows the most important stylistic paradigms, the technological developments and the social impact of film throughout the history of film and is able to recognise, identify and define these.

3. The Master has the insight to place film within the broader contemporary media and the visual culture. The Master is able to analyse film and other images and to differentiate and compare film and other images.

4. The Master can distinguish the important phases (production, distribution, use) of film and other visual sources and is able to analyse the political, social, cultural and economic functions and their integration.

Application (scientific skills)

5. The Master is able to use the most important methods and techniques for observation, analysis and argumentation of film studies and visual studies in their own research and is able to write a scientific report on this research.

6. The Master is able to collect and critically process sources and research literature on a specific scientific question about film or visual culture. The Master can formulate a question, analyse the subject and differentiate it from other related subjects.

7. The Master has a high degree of visual literacy in a broad sense. The Master is able to critically understand, synthesise and evaluate images.

8. The Master is able to reflect critically on the scientific subject area of film and visual studies: the master is able to evaluate scientific texts by formulating criticism on concepts, methods and analyses.

9. The Master is able to reflect critically on film and visual culture: the Master is able to evaluate social phenomenons of film and visual culture from a scientific approach and is able to take on a considered point of view in current debates.
