Academic Guidance

All faculties/departments have an international academic coordinator who is the contact person for exchange students on all academic matters. He/she is assisted by administrative staff dealing in particular with student exchanges.  If you need more detailed information to draw up your study plan or any other academic issue during your stay please turn to these persons.

During the first days of semester most faculties, such as Applied Economic Sciences, Arts, Political & Social Sciences, Law and Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences organize a welcome session for orientation on academic matters. It is absolutely essential to attend this information session. The dates of these sessions are communicated during the general Orientation Days organized by the International Relations Office right before the start of the semester.

Students studying at the faculties of Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine should contact the international co-ordinator individually for a personal welcome and assistance.

Each faculty/department has one or more ombudspersons, who mediate if educational problems or examination issues occur. The tasks of the ombudsperson are manifold:

  • Inform the students about the examination rules
  • If the student faces fears, stress, concentration problems… the ombudsperson can refer to a doctor, psychologist or student counsellor on campus
  • mediate between the student and the examiner in order to prevent or solve problems
  • attend the examination on motivated demand of the student or the examiner
  • guard the rights of the student during final examination board meetings
  • provide advise in case of fraud
