Road safety is a major challenge in cities, which has led to a focus on improving the condition and safety of urban infrastructure. It is also urgent to consider how to manage the billions of produced car tyres at the end of their life. To address these issues, Impact-Absorbing Pavements (IAP) have been developed as a surface layer for sidewalks and bike lanes. These surfaces are inspired by playgrounds and designed to reduce injuries from impact with the pavement. IAP offers a promising solution for improving safety and promoting a circular economy in urban areas.
