Efficient functioning of the reading rooms
In the reading rooms, all activities that can disturb the efficient functioning of the library or of other readers are to be avoided. Activities other than those necessary for study and research are not permitted.
- There is to be no loud talking or telephoning
- All buildings of the University of Antwerp are smoke-free, including the reading rooms of the library
- Eating is not permitted, and drinking is permitted only as long as it does not threaten to cause damage to the books or equipment (no unstable cups). For the consultation of expensive and rare material the restrictions can be more stringent
- Bags, coats, etc. are to be stored in the areas designated for them
Staff reserved activities
The opening and closing of windows, curtains, the regulation of heating, lighting, and air-conditioning, and the moving of furniture and equipment will be performed by the personnel, not by the readers.
Care
The documents are to be handled with care: no stains, dog-ears, folding or writing/underlining, not even in pencil.
Inspection
Upon leaving, the readers are expected to submit to the loan procedure and/or the inspection of the books in their possession. Works may only be removed from the reading rooms after registration of the loan. Readers who unrightfully remove works from the reading room or refuse to cooperate with the inspection will be refused access to the library.
Extra permission
If required legally or by agreement, unpublished writings and archives will only be provided for reading with the written permission of the author or owner.
Book stacks
Readers do not have access to the closed book stacks of the library.
Closing
Closing procedures will commence fifteen minutes before closing time.
