Dra. Isabelle Cuykx

Isabelle Cuykx is a PhD researcher at the department of communication sciences, University of Antwerp. Her research focuses on the potential impact of food media and food endorsers on the food choices and eating habits of adults. Her research is supported by the cSBO InFlOOD project (2019-2023). 


Dra. Paulien Decorte

Having first obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Literature in 2017, Paulien Decorte completed her Master’s in Communication sciences in 2020. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the department of communication sciences, University of Antwerp. Her research focuses on the potential impact of food media and food endorsers on the food choices and eating habits of young adults, and is supported by the cSBO InFlOOD project (2019-2023).

 

Drs. Jules Vrinten

Jules Vrinten is a PhD researcher at KU Leuven, Dept. Of Communication Sciences. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Theoretical and Experimental Psychology (Magna Cum Laude) in 2014 and his master’s degree in Health Promotion (Cum Laude) in 2015 both at Ghent University. He currently works on a reseach project that aims to determine which influencers affect food choices in Flanders and to also facilitate healthy and sustainable food choices. Jules Vrinten is a member of the research group MIOS.

 

Dra. Katrien Maldoy

Drs. Katrien Maldoy obtained a  Master in Communication Science (specialization Strategic Communication) at the University of Antwerp in 2013. She later obtained a second Master in Marketing & Communication at management school IAE in Lille. After working as a strategic planner for TBWA and BBDO, she decided in 2017 to turn back to the academic world. She now works as a mandate assistant at the University of Antwerp. Her research focuses on how marketing and communication can better promote healthy food. Drs. Maldoy is a member of the research group MIOS.

 

Dra. Laura Di Profi

Do Migrant and Italian Foodways meet and mix? Food, Language, and Identity in super-diverse Prato

Laura studies how migration influences food practices, using the Italian city of Prato as a case-study. Laura is supervised by Prof. Ching Lin Pang, Charlotte De Backer co-supervises the project.


Dra. Amber Peeters

Amber Peeters obtained her Master's degree in Communication Sciences (specialization Strategic Communication) in 2020. At the moment, Amber is a PhD researcher at the University of Antwerp, where she is a member of the research group MIOS as well. Her research focuses on meat, men and masculinity, its portrayal on social media and whether the decision to (not) eat meat shapes interpersonal interactions of men.


Dra. Lauranna Teunissen 

Dra. Lauranna Teunissen obtained a Bachelor in business management (specialization Marketing) at the AP Hogeschool  in 2017. She later obtained a Master Communication sciences at the University of Antwerp in 2019. Lauranna Teunissen is currently a PhD researcher at the department of communication sciences, University of Antwerp. She is also a member of the research group MIOS. Her research focuses on the potential effect of food media on the different aspects of food literacy. Her research is supported by the cSBO InFlOOD project (2019) and an FWO grant (2020-2023). 

Drs. Viktor Proesmans

​Viktor Proesmans is a PhD researcher at the Ghent University, Department of Marketing, Innovation and Organisation. He obtained his master’s degree ‘Health Food Innovation Management’ at Maastricht University in 2019. In the past he contributed to research conducted by Maastricht University and the ild care foundation.

Currently he works on a historical analysis of popular food media in Flanders. During this part he will analyse the influence food media had on our food consumption in the last 10 years, whether recipes and food advise promoted by different food media are healthy, and what discourse popular food media figures use to present their message.


Dra. Yara Qutteina

Dra. Yara Qutteina attained her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, and was part of several public health and nutrition campaigns. She later went on to attain her Master of Public Health (with a focus on Health Behavior and Education) and began her involvement in academic research. Ms. Qutteina is currently a doctoral student at the Institute for Media studies in KU Leuven. She is working on a project exploring the effect of social media food marketing on adolescent nutrition. Her research interests lie primarily in the area of media and eating behavior as well as health communication, behavior change, nutrition, and health promotion.

 

Dra. Elina Vrijsen

Dra. Elina Vrijsen obtained a Master in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Catholic University of Leuven in 2019. She is currently pursuing a joint Ph.D. between the University of Antwerp and the University of Ghent. She is a member of the research group MIOS and an associate member of MPC. Her research focuses on the cultural construction of masculinity in relation to meat. On the one hand, she will study the representation of meat and masculinity in Flemish media. On the other hand, she aims to look at the role of these images in individual identity and interpersonal interaction among men.
