Exit Arusha? Pathways from Power-Sharing in Burundi: a book project.
Arusha is a Tanzanian city of major symbolic value in the history of Burundi. The city gave its name to the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement for Burundi of 28 August 2000. It is associated with power-sharing, the main mechanism of Burundi's negotiated transition to peace. Over the past few years, "Arusha" has been called into question by certain political actors. The book project Exit Arusha? deals with the rise and, more particularly, the (attempted) fall of power-sharing in Burundi.
Through this website and #exitarusha, this book project seeks to become a participatory process. A manuscript outline, published as an IOB Working Paper in January 2017, sets the tone. It summarizes the book chapters yet to be written and it invites its readers to contribute to the book. To consult the Working paper, click on the image to the right.
