Research Area

The study territory (see map below) is an area of advancement of the Nicaraguan agricultural frontier, in a corridor bordering the Bosawas Nature Reserve that runs from the ‘old’ agriculatural frontier -i.e. the forests colonized by mestizo farmers in the 1960s-, to the current ‘pioneer front’ in the indigenous territories of the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region (NCCAR). The focus on two main research areas, located in the old and new agricultural frontier, will help us understand the origin and mechanisms of the advancement of the agricultural frontier.
