Climate Action Week! (23-27 September 2019)

A climate neutral UAntwerp

Climate scientists agree: the massive emissions of greenhouse gases by humans are causing the earth to warm up and put our living environment under pressure. UAntwerp is taking the climate challenge head on and aspires to become climate neutral in the coming decade. A climate plan is currently being developed by the Climate Action team, a group of over 100 employees and students from our university.

The Climate Action Plan is UAntwerp’s first comprehensive effort to document, analyze, and understand its climate impact. It is a fully bottom-up initiative, set up by a group of staff, researchers and students from different faculties, statutes, and campuses, joined together by the conviction that UAntwerp can and should play an exemplary role in the upcoming transition to a climate neutral economy and society.  The ambition is to launch the first climate action plan by the end of 2019. In order to achieve this deadline, we need your input.

Climate Action Week (23-27 September)

We declare the week of September 23 to be Climate Action Week. It is no coincidence that this week coincides with the opening of the academic year.

As everyone is returning to work, we call on all staff and students to stand up for a climate-neutral university. During the week, various open workshops are organized on the campuses, each tackling important climate domains for the university (including energy, waste, and divestment).

In the workshops, you will get acquainted with the dilemmas of reducing UAntwerp’s climate impact and brainstorm suggested solutions with us: from thinking about waste collection to brainstorming a new policy for sustainable travel. Everyone is welcome to join.
