Chromatography is a process of separating components in a, e.g. liquid, mixture. A liquid sample is injected into a mobile phase flowing through a column packed with a separation medium (stationary phase). The affinity of the sample towards to the stationary and mobile phase will determine the retention time. Different compounds will have different retention times and a mixture of compounds will consequently be seperated. Two types of chromatoghraphy are available, ion chromatograpy and high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC).
