Koen Lenaerts studied law at the universities of Namur, Leuven and Harvard, as well as public administration at the university of Harvard. He was awarded a PhD in Law from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in 1982. Since 1983 he has been a professor of European Law at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and, from 1984 until 1989, also at the College of Europe in Bruges. He was a member of the Brussels bar from 1986 until 1989 and is the author of numerous books and articles on European Law. He has been a judge at the Court of First Instance of the European Communities (1989-2003) and since 2003 at the Court of Justice of the European Union. He was Vice-President of the latter court from 2012 to 2015 and is currently the President of the Court of Justice of the European Union. He has received several academic prizes and honorary fellowships, including the Belgian Francqui Chair.
The Antwerp Consortium on the Organization of Rulemaking and Multi-level Governance in Europe (ACTORE) is the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the University of Antwerp. ACTORE brings together scholars from 3 research groups that study various dimensions of EU politics: law (G&L), public administration (PA&M) and political science (ACIM). ACTORE hosts multidisciplinary expertise in multi-level and multi-actor organization of the EU.
Acting as Centre of Excellence ACTORE facilitates the development of joint research and the common organization of Ph.D. training, functions as a hub for EU related teaching in the two faculties and beyond, enables innovation in teaching programs and reaches out to students and citizens interested in life-long learning, and organizes events for targeted audiences such as EU practitioners, schools and interest groups.
