28.04 - 26.05.2019
Initiator: Wim Wauman
From Sunday April 28th until Sunday May 26th 2019 the exhibition space on the first floor of the Blauwendael castle in Waasmunster will be transformed into the ‘Blauwhaus’: an art installation/residency program where visual artist and PhD-researcher Wim Wauman wishes to collaborate with a ‘dream team’ of experts, craftsmen, artists, pilgrims and writers. The name is a neologism of the Blauwendael castle and the Bauhaus which was established exactly 100 years ago by architect Walter ‘de zilveren prins’ Gropius in Weimar (DE) and winks at the Red House in London where William Morris surrounded himself with the pre-Raphaelite-circle.
The project is developed in close collaboration with the local ‘academie voor beeldende kunsten’ and is supported by ARIA (Antwerp Research Institute for the Arts – Antwerp University). It intends to question and stimulate the artistic workflow by gathering and inspiring a 'dream team' in a shared laboratory while establishing an experimental situation of ‘thinking’ and ‘making’ together. Paraphrasing John Baldessari, it offers "a situation where art can happen".
The dream team consist of 'residents' such as Isabel Bouttens (animation), Alice McCabe (floral artist and pilgrim from Londen), Madeleine Wermenbol (graphic designer and weaver), Veerle Verschooren (glass-in-lead), Leen Huet (writer, art historian), Kelly Schacht (artist), Evy Bosman (artist), Ilse Van Roy (artist), Hilde Borgermans (artist), Filip Dujardin (artist, ov), Warre Mulder (artist) and 'collaborators' including Kaat Somers (KASKA student, apprentice), Lander Cardon (, former student, tattoo artist), Sarah Corynen (illustrator and print designer), Melvin Vanderstylen (prettyfly.be) and Sven Beirnaert (book designer). We also expect presentations and discussions with Arjen Mulder, Caroline Voet, Johan Steyaert and others.
