The Laboratory for Cell Biology and Histology at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences is seeking to fill the following full-time (100%) vacancy:

Postdoctoral Researcher in the area of Biomedical Sciences to explore the role of the gut-brain axis in neurodegenerative disease

Job description

The Laboratory of Cell Biology and Histology ( is an interfaculty research group, uniting scientists from the Faculty of Biomedical, Pharmaceutical and Veterinary sciences and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The laboratory has a longstanding track record in neurogastroenterological research and one of the current core research lines is dedicated to unveiling the cell biological principles of neurodegeneration. Recent insights suggest that the gut may be a vulnerable (but medically accessible) node for amyloid-driven neurodegeneration. That is why we want to define the origin, entry routes and spreading behaviour of amyloid proteins in the enteric nervous system. We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled colleague who can take the daily supervision in this novel and highly exciting study, which relies on a combination of cell and tissue biology, advanced light microscopy and molecular analyses. As the Laboratory of Cell Biology and Histology also runs the Microscopy Core Facility (, the successful applicant will benefit from access to cutting-edge microscopy infrastructure.
