This research line studies the link between developmental instability, how it is expressed morphologically and how it can be measured optimally by means of fluctuating asymmetry.

In this research, new techniques are developed to optimally make use of the possibilities of obtaining scans of objects in 3D and 4D. The developed methodologies are then applied in a combination of observational studies, genetic studies and experiments to understand the conditions in which FA signals stress from different origins (condition, toxic compounds, congenital abnormalities, genetic variation, natural or sexual selection). This increases our understanding in the use of the concept of DI in biomonitoring, as well as its role in selection. Currently, the focus is on human faces and bodies, studying the relationships between developmental instability, attractiveness, life history traits and sexual dimorphism.
