Bio

Joke Van houwenis obtained her master's degree in architecture in 2020 at the University of Antwerp. During her studies, she studied half a year in France at L'école Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Nantes. While working on her final project, she developed a strong interest in conversion, reuse of existing buildings and circular design. After a short working experience as an intern architect, she decided to return to the academic world. Since September 2021, Joke joined the Henry van de Velde research group. Her research will focus on the reuse of existing buildings.

Ecole d’architectures, Nantes, Lacaton & Vassal

This project is a great example of a flexible building. Thanks to its structure it is possible to create multiple situations. The building consists of three concrete slabs which are subdivided by lightweight steel structures. The current spaces are very generous and can be adapted at any moment.
