Competence center: Antwerp Centre of Evolutionary Demography

ACED, the Antwerp Centre of Evolutionary Demography, is an international, multidisciplinary research centre of excellence of the Department of Management of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Antwerp (Belgium). The ACED programme deals with the antecedents and consequences of demographic diversity in the realm of teams, organizations, industries, networks and communities. Diversity is studied by a demographically diverse research team currently harboring about 32 scholars of over 12 different nationalities.

As ACED is an autonome research centre, it has his own website.

Competence centre: International Management & Diplomacy

The competence group on IMD focusses on teaching and training in the domains of international management and some relevant sideshows towards diplomacy and development studies. Though the faculty of applied economics constitutes our main action field, the IMD staff also teaches at Itmma, AMS and other faculties at the UA. With International Management is understood applied international economics and more practical implementation in business models. Some courses are frequently inviting foreign teachers, as our staff perform regular visiting teaching abroad.   

The research output is mostly linked to the home teaching, the lectures in international exchange programs, conferences and staff mobility. Every year, at least one book of readings is produced, such as "essay in IMD" (Wereldwijd Bekeken) and the "Millenium Decennium" on structural changes in global trade patterns. Last decade, the next topics were frequently investigated in publications or conference papers:

Competence center: Cultural Management & Cultural Policy

The Competence Center Cultural Management and Cultural Policy specializes in different types of management and policy research of the cultural and creative sectors. Recent research topics are: management of heritage depots, international cultural policy, cultural diversity, cultural governance, opportunities for public private partnerships, residency policy, the impact of subsidies on the artist and artistic organizations, creative cities, … For the research on creative industries there is a close collaboration with the Knowledge Centre Creative Industries of Flanders DC (Antwerp Management School).

Competence center: Multilingual Professional Communication

The competence center “Multilingual Professional Communication” specializes in different types of writing research. The main focus is on the use of digital media in an organizational context. To observe professional writers in an unobtrusive way, the group developed a logging program, called Inputlog. Another line of research deals with topics in the teaching of professional communication. In this educational context Calliope was developed, an online multilingual writing center, introducing a variety of genres in business and technical communication

The competence center also organizes the interdisciplinary master program “Multilingual Professional Communication”, a joint venture between the Arts and the Business & Economic Faculty of the University of Antwerp. More information on this program is available on the MPC website.
