In our research on photocatalysis we seek to develop a sustainable purification technology that operates under ambient conditions of pressure and temperature. The process relies on the generation of charge carriers upon excitation by photons, that consecutively initiate degradation reactions of organic pollutants through a radical chain mechanism. In this line of research we have two main goals: (1) developing photocatalytic materials that effectively convert solar photons to chemical energy, and (2) developing efficient photocatalytic reactor geometries that enable valorisation of this technology in industry, e.g. by integration in new or existing Heating, Ventilation or Air Conditioning (HVAC) units.
