Societal impact

More intensive and more structural interdisciplinary collaboration leads to better insight into the assets and problems associated with urban life. By integrating the various disciplines the Urban Studies Institute ensures the necessary build-up of capacity which can be important for a wide range of stakeholders. The Institute aims to feed the social debate by building up its scientific expertise.

It also functions as a contact point and interface, coordinating the interaction with other academic and non-academic players.

  • USI is linked to the Hannah Arendt Institute in Mechelen. This is a knowledge platform and training centre on diversity, urbanity and citizenship.
  • Together with Stadsform, USI organises a series of activities, such as the 'Make the City' debates on how the city is actively 'made' by the people who live there.
