A TOP BOF project is awarded by the UA Research Council.
Name of the project:
FORHOT: the Icelandic natural temperature gradients: a gift from nature.
From 01/01/2014 till 31/12/2017.
Principal investigator: prof. Ivan Janssens
PLECO-doctoral students: Niki Leblans, Steven Dauwe
This project will study ecosystem structure (plant and microbial community composition; carbon stocks) and function (productivity, biogeochemistry) along a natural temperature gradient on Iceland to answer critical research questions about the effect of warming on ecosystems. We will address 1) the nonlinearities of the ecosystem responses to warming; 2) the transient vs. long term nature of ecosystem changes by comparing areas that have been exposed to soil warming since 5 and > 30 years respectively and; 3) the hypothesis that warming effects are mainly induced by accelerated nutrient cycling.
