Bart Braem got his Masters degree in Computer Science at the University of Antwerp (magna cum laude). In September 2005, he joined the MOSAIC research group at the University of Antwerp, where he obtained his PhD thesis Reliable and energy efficient protocols for wireless body area networks.
As a senior researcher at imec in the IDLab research group, he continued research on complex, chaotic networks in a number of regional imec projects. Until 2015 he was research WP lead in the European FP7 project CONFINE on community networks. These days Bart focuses on smart cities within the imec City of Things project and a number of regional and EU smart cities projects, which study Internet of Things within an urban environment.
