Jelle graduated with a Master in Biochemistry from Ghent University in 2017 and is currently working as a PhD student at the Laboratory of Medical Microbiology where his focus is on the highly pathogenic bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. He studies the molecular epidemiology and genetic background of S. aureus pneumonia/infections in European ICU’s within the COMBACTE-NET ASPIRE-ICU, ASPIRE-SSI and SAATELLITE studies.
Next to this Jelle also researches biofilm production and the formation of antibiotic-tolerant, dormant persister cells in S. aureus, this by using, amongst other, transcriptomic analysis and microcosm models.
