Laura Michiels works as a guest lecturer in the Department of Literature, where she teaches courses about 19th-century literature in English, 20th-century literary portrayals of New York and literary theory from the perspective of gender and sexuality. She obtained a PhD in Literature from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2015. Her dissertation dealt with metatheatrical aspects to the work of American playwright Tennessee Williams. Her current research focuses on contemporary American political theatre, mainly by Naomi Wallace, Tony Kushner and J.T. Rogers. Articles of hers have appeared in arcadia: International Journal of Literary Culture, Amerikastudien and Journal of Contemporary Drama in English amongst others. Her monograph about Tennessee Williams and metatheatre will appear with McFarland in October 2020.
