Nina Van Eekert (Social Worker & Doctor of Sociology and Health Sciences) is a visiting professor and postdoctoral researcher in social sciences. She wrote her doctoral thesis on the medicalization of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) in Egypt and Kenya and is currently continuing this research as an FWO Postdoctoral Fellow. In addition, she is expanding her research expertise to the broader field of sexual and reproductive health (e.g. contraceptive use) and is currently coordinating an interdisciplinary research project on medical decision-making among migrant populations in Belgium.
