My research and teaching intersects at the crossing point of European Union Studies, International Relations and Gender Studies, where I focus mainly on gender equality in the EU’s external policies, in particular European development policy. I hold a PhD in EU Studies on the topic “Gender mainstreaming in EU development policy” (2010, Ghent University, Centre for EU Studies). After my PhD I was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship of the Special Research Fund (BOF) in 2010 and a postdoctoral fellowship of the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO 2012-2016). My main research interests include EU external policy, EU gender equality policies, international and European development cooperation, gender mainstreaming, civil society and (transnational) advocacy, gender theories and equality policies, in the following regions: Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America, the European Neighbourhood and the European Union.
