Natan wins NCCC XXI Oral Presentation Award


At the end of the 21st Netherlands Chemistry and Catalysis Conference, Natan was awarded a prize for his outstanding lecture on plasmonic core-shell nanoparticles for photocatalytic applications.

De Jonge Academie is an interdisciplinary and interuniversity meeting place for young top researchers and artists with their own view on science, society, art and policy.

Sammy will join the organization from 2020 - 2025.

Rajeshreddy Ninakanti joins the group in a collaboration with prof. Sara Bals (EMAT) and prof. Silvia Lenaerts (DuEL) to work on the synthesis, characterization and application of plasmonic metal@TiO2 core-shell nanoparticles.

Photoelectrochemical screening method for solubale photosensitizers #ChemPhotoChem


Read more about Shahid's first paper on a rapid method to test the photocatalytic activity of singlet‐oxygen‐producing photosensitizers using a batch cell, a LED laser and a conventional potentiostat. Finally, structure of bimetallic Turkevich Au-Ag nanoparticles unraveled! #Small

Read more about Natan's recent work in close collaboration with the EMAT research group. By a combined experimental - electron tomography - modeling approach, we have once and for all proven that Au-Ag nanoparticles prepared according to the renowned Turkevich method do not result in perfect homogeneous alloys, but rather an alloyed core-shell morphology is obtained.

Experimental method to disentangle plasmonic near-field and hot electron mechanisms #ACS Appl. Nano. Mater.


We are super proud of this study in which we present an experimental strategy to disentangle plasmonic near-field enhancement and hot electron effects. By preparing plasmonic core-shell nanoparticles of which the shell's thickness and conductive nature can be accurately controlled, both phenomena can be selectively repressed or evoked!

This work is featured as a supplementary cover of the journal.

Improved detection method for soot degradation #Chem. Eng. J.


Here's the result of Myrthe's efforts on improving the detection methodology for (photocatalytic) soot degradation. We present a combined approach based on digital image analysis, and in-situ FTIR spectroscopy.

Sammy officially appointed as Assistant Professor


After nearly five years experience as a postdoc, the moment has finally come to start a career as an independent scientist. It's great to join the academic staff of the DuEL research group, where I was born and raised and that I have helped grow from scratch to where it is now. 

I'm super excited to get started. Let's roll!!!
