Quality, facts and figures

Quality assurance

At the University of Antwerp, we ensure the quality of our programmes. Every programme goes through a quality assurance cycle of six years.

In year 3, a balance is drawn up of the quality assurance of the programme during internal process monitoring and control. In the autumn of 2019 this will take place for the Master of Chemistry.

Year 6 concludes the cycle with a peer review. The study programme reflects on itself and has a discussions with internal and external experts and an independent student.

On 23rd and 24th May 2018 the peer review team visited the Master of Chemistry and decided to confirm confidence in the programme.

The Master's degree in Chemistry at UAntwerp offers a solid and qualitative programme in the basics of chemistry and a combination of fundamental chemistry and more business-oriented and applied components.

In this small-scale programme most teachers know all students by name. The many guest lecturers from business are a great asset for the programme. Students can take an international research internship (30sp) or a company internship (15sp) in the Master's programme. Here they are taken out of their comfort zone: they learn a lot and grow as a person.

The peer review team challenges the education committee to think even further and with a broader view on what the labor market and society expect of graduate chemists in the future, such as knowledge of life cycle assessment and sustainability, but also creativity, critical thinking, flexibility, entrepreneurial spirit, computational thinking, leadership and being able to collaborate with other disciplines. The programme will further strengthen itself in this area in the near future.

The peer review team appreciates the transition to the English Master's programme and believes that the programme has developed an adequate preparation in the Bachelor's programme. She proposes that this programme be played out fully internationally in the short term.
