Postgraduate of nursing in general practice - Profile

In Belgium, the majority of GPs work in solo-practice. Many of them work without support of auxiliary staff. A large number of male GPs will retire in the coming decennium. Recent studies indicate new graduates are moslty female and they prefer working in larger group practices.

The University of Antwerp (Centre for General Practice and Nursing Department), in collaboration with University colleges for nursing studies, starts a post-bachelor training course for registerd nurses to take up tasks in primary care.

The course is expected to serve as a change agent in the region. In the pilot phase, 20 nurses can enroll annually.
