A world of possibilities...
If you don’t want to go abroad for a longer period of time, you can opt for a summer school or an international course. These courses are often organised internationally or in collaboration with the university, and may fit within the framework of the Erasmus exchange programme. Summer schools allow you to become acquainted with a different context in a short period of time and give you the possibility to deepen and to complement your current curriculum.
Can the credits be added to my curriculum?
Some faculties award credits upon successful completion of a summer school or international course. To learn more about the regulations and conditions, contact the international coordinator of your faculty as soon as possible, or browse your faculty’s page in the Blackboard learning environment. Timely submission of your application is required to secure your participation in a summer school.
Where do I find inspiration?
- On the website www.summerschoolsineurope.eu you will find an extensive offer of summer schools in Europe. You can sort these by period, country and study field.
- You can also visit the website of the institution of your choice. The list of partner institutions your faculty has an exchange agreement with can be used as a guideline. As a student of a partner institution you might be eligible for a reduced tuition fee.
- Are you not able/willing to go abroad, but you want an international experience closer to home? Every year the University of Antwerp offers short, intensive courses as part of Antwerp Summer University. These courses tackle subjects within the areas of expertise of the university. The high number of international students will help you build an international network. Students of the University of Antwerp are entitled to a refund of 150 euros upon completion of the summer school.
- Students of the Faculty of Business and Economics can participate in one of the international group seminar that are being organised and accompanied by UAntwerp staff members.
What about the financial aspect?
For the participation in a summer school there are no central funding channels, like there are for Erasmus exchanges. Students are to participate on a self-funded basis. Tuition fees and costs can differ quite a lot, so do some research in advance and check which costs are included in the tuition fee (housing, lunch, dinner, social activities…).
However, there are some scholarship options available – more information can be found in the student portal > My education > International experience > Studying > Summer school
- Refund of 150 euros to participate in one of the ASU summer schools
- Scholarships for less fortunate students
- Reduced tuition fees for summer schools @ King’s College (London) – launch in the spring of 2019.
