Getting around

The University of Antwerp has 5 campuses located in the city centre as well as the outskirts of Antwerp. Detailed campus maps show you where the various buildings are located on each campus. Most summer schools will take place at either the Stadscampus or Campus Drie Eiken. Biking between the campuses is the easiest and fastest way to get around, although a dense public transportation network also alows you to easily travel by bus or tram between campuses.

Road constructions

This summer, the city of Antwerp is reconstructing the area around the Antwerp Opera, not far away from the City Campus. This means that traffic might be impeded in the area of the Rooseveltplaats, Italiëlei and Frankrijklei. For updated information on the current state of the construction work, and its effect on traffic, please visit: It is therefore not recommended to enter the city centre by car, but use one of the Park and Ride zones instead.

Public transport

Antwerp has a dense public transportation network. Buses and trams are available to take you to many different parts of the city. More detailed information can be found on  A single ticket within the city bought on the tram or bus will cost you 3 euro. It allows you to use public transportation (buses and trams) for one hour. You could also consider buying a Lijn card (10 rides for €15) or a five day card (€17 for unlimited travel during 5 days). These tickets can be purchased in the official shop of De Lijn near the Central Station, or at almost every super market.

Cycling and walking

Antwerp is a bike-friendly city. The distances are not too large, the bike lanes are flat and with the right gear, you can cycle all year round.

Velo is Antwerp's metropolitan bike scheme, where you can pick up and drop off bicycles at various points whenever you like. The small bicycles have three speeds, anti-skid pedals and thick tires, so it’s easier to avoid the tram tracks. In order to ride Velo you have to register beforehand. You can buy a day pass for €4 or a week pass for €10. After purchasing a day of week pass, you can use the bikes for free for a maximum of 30 minutes per session, after which you need to wait at least 5 minutes to take a new bike.   All information available on
