Masterclass for doctor honoris causa Jeffrey Sachs

Prof. dr. Jeffrey Sachs received the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa (honorary doctorate) for general merit from the University of Antwerp. Festivities, in honor of Jeff Sachs, took place on Thursday 29 March 2018.

About ​Jeffrey Sachs
Jeffrey Sachs receives the honorary degree for his exceptional contribution to the globe’s transformation to sustainable development. He used scientific knowledge on sustainable development and a positive spirit to convince political and industrial leaders, local communities and students on practical and feasible ways to end extreme poverty and achieve sustainable development.

He excelled in both global governance and in science-based demonstrations at community scale. Illustrative are his positions as Special Advisor to the UN Secretary Generals Kofi Annan and Ban Ki Moon and as Director of the Millennium Villages Project.

The Age of Sustainable Development (2015), a book written by Prof. Sachs gives an understanding of the challenges and pathways to sustainable development.
