Introduction and laudation by Professor Petra Meier, Chair of the Department of Political Science.
The populist radical right emerged in Western Europe more than three decades ago, with parties like the Belgian Vlaams Blok (VB), Dutch Centrumpartij (CP) and French Front national (FN) scoring small results in local and national elections. During the 20th century the parties grew, spreading to more countries, but remained largely excluded from power and had only modest political influence. This has changed in the 21st century, in which the populist radical right has moved from the margins to the mainstream and populist radical right politics is no longer limited to populist radical right parties.
You are cordially invited to a reception after the lecture.
Please confirm your attendance online before 1 March 2018
In March and May 2018, Professor Mudde will give several additional lectures - feel free to attend them all!
