Survival of weak newborns - how to do science around birth?
Per Sangild has for 35 years studied survival and growth of newborn mammals, both production animals and infants. How is it possible to survive the dramatic birth transition? He describes how cross-disciplinary science from farms to hospitals, and vice versa, is used to advance our knowledge about the great mystery of birth. Related to this research, he will discuss how modern biological science has both potentials and some limitations - and a need for broader philosophical reflection in research.
