In 2014, I graduated as a biologist at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. In the same year, I started my PhD on 3D-printing of the corneal stroma in a collaborative project between UAntwerpen and KU Leuven. The research was focused on the development of a 3D-printed scaffold from recombinant human collagen type III to support the growth and differentiation of corneal stromal cells. During my years as a PhD student, I optimized an animal-free and GMP-compliant culture protocol for these cells. At the same time I was trained to work in a class A/B clean room as part of a phase II multicentric clinical trial to treat limbal stem cell deficiency.
I obtained the degree of PhD at the faculty of Medicine in April of 2019 after which I became a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp.
