Matter and interactions: from natural philosophy to modern physics

Recent advances in the physics of fundamental interactions can be seen as proposing interpretations and answers to questions which philosophy has long asked on the nature of the universe. This lecture will present ideas on the ways in which modern physicists think of physical laws, and illustrate them with examples drawing on the concepts of symmetry, mass and quanta.
