Based on Molecular Dynamics simulations, we investigate the structural properties of a two-dimensional ensemble of magnetic rods. The magnetic rod is composed of few aligned single dipolar disks. This is motivated by recent experiments. A diversity of self-assembled configurations is found, some of them can be characterised as clusters, percolated and ordered structures. The percolation properties of the different phases are investigated in detail. We found that by increasing the aspect ratio of the rods it suppresses the percolation transition due to the decreased mobility in two-dimensions, which is the opposite behavior observed previously in the three-dimensional case. A magnetic bulk phase is found with local ferromagnetic order and an unusual non-monotonic behavior of the nematic order.
