Water inside a nanocapillary exhibits unconventional structural and dynamical behavior due to its ordered structure. The confining walls, density and lateral pressures control profoundly the microscopic structure of trapped water. Here we study the electrostriction of confined water subjected to pressures of the order of GPa for two different setups.
We investigate the effects of confinement and a perpendicular applied electric field on the water structure, density and the lateral pressure. Our study makes a close relation between recent experiments on confined water and reveals the sensitivity of the microscopic structure of confined water to the size of the channel, external electric field and experimental setup.
