Realizing the transition to Open Access

Researchers in Europe increasingly recognize that Open Access is essential to improve the visibility, access and impact of publicly funded research.

More and more funding organizations and universities have binding Open Access mandates. The University of Antwerp also has an Open Access policy (2014). However, for many researchers the implications of Open Access requirements are unclear and they do not fully realize how they can integrate these requirements with their funding and publication strategies and how these obligations might be interconnected with other challenges such as privacy regulations and data management plans.

The Open Access Week gives guidance on Open Access and related topics thorugh webinars, seminars and a roundtable with testimonials by fellow researchers with positive and negative experiences in dealing with Open Acess obligations. In this way, we prepare researchers for a future where Open Access is a reality and not a barrier.
