Investigation of microstructure-dependent martensitic transformation and functional behaviors of Ni-Ti shape memory alloys

Abstract:

Ni-Ti shape memory alloys (SMAs) have been widely studied in the last decades as important engineering and biomedical materials, due to their outstanding shape memory effect (SME) and superelasticity (SE), as well as outstanding mechanical properties and biocompatibility. As the origin of the functional properties of these alloys, martensitic transformation strongly dependent on the microstructural features of the alloys has drawn increasing interests. In this talk, recent studies on microstructure-dependent martensitic transformation and functional behaviors of Ni-Ti SMAs will be presented, including optimization of SME by precipitation aiming at artificial anal sphincter (AAS), functional fatigue of Ni-Ti SMAs and microstructural evolution under different loads, together with abnormal SME due to ultra-fine precipitates.
