About the lecture

In The Library: a World History architect and architectural historian Jamaes Campbell brings the evolution of library buildings through the ages from the beginning of writing to the present day. Throughout the ages, book collections have served to symbolize their owners' culture and societal reflections. In its most splendid form the library becomes a total work of art, combining painting, sculpture, furniture, architecture and urban planning into cultural and social spaces. The finest libraries are repositories of not just of books, but of learning, creativity and contemplation.
